WASHINGTON, DC – November 17, 2015 - Small business marketplace lender StreetShares today announced the appointment of Troy A. Paredes to its Board of Advisors, effective immediately. He joins former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, General George Casey, former Deputy Director of the CFPB, Raj Date, and SoFi founding team member, Pete Hartigan, on the Board of Advisors.

From 2008 until 2013, Mr. Paredes served as a Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), having been appointed by President George W. Bush. At the SEC, Mr. Paredes was an advocate for small business and for simplifying the complexities of securities law.

"StreetShares offers an innovative funding solution for small business owners," Mr. Paredes said. "I believe the StreetShares vision for small business lending can lead the industry going forward. I'm excited about joining the team in their efforts."

Mr. Paredes is the founder of Paredes Strategies LLC.  He also is currently the Distinguished Policy Fellow and Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a Lecturer on Law at Harvard Law School. He is the author of numerous academic articles and is a co-author (beginning with the 4th edition) of a multi-volume securities regulation treatise with Louis Loss and Joel Seligman.

"We are thrilled and honored to have Troy join the StreetShares team," said StreetShares CEO Mark L. Rockefeller. "His depth of experience will add valuable insight and perspective to our Board of Advisors. And his belief in America's small businesses is perfectly aligned with StreetShares' mission. It's a great fit."

Prior to being appointed SEC Commissioner, Mr. Paredes was a professor of law at Washington University in St. Louis and a professor of business (by courtesy) at Washington University's Olin Business School.

Mr. Paredes holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and earned his J.D. from Yale Law School.

StreetShares is a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) small business marketplace lender that connects small business owners with loans backed by qualified retail and institutional investors. Those investors compete in an online auction to fund portions of the requested loan, with StreetShares then combining the lowest bids into a single small business loan. While open to all small business owners, StreetShares is veteran-owned and has a particular focus on funding veteran-owned small businesses.
