WASHINGTON, Nov. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of National Veterans Small Business Week (Nov. 3-7) and Veterans Day(Nov. 11), StreetShares announced today the "Got Your Six" campaign to help veteran-owned small businesses obtain reasonably priced funding through the peer to peer lending movement. StreetShares will pay the first loan payment for veteran business borrowers funded on the StreetShares marketplace, up to $600. Learn more at StreetShares.com/Veterans.

StreetShares, a veteran-run and veteran-focused marketplace, will promote the offer through their recently-formed coalition – the nation's largest team of veteran focused business organizations – which includes over 20 veteran-focused entrepreneurship or small business organizations. The coalition has a collective individual membership of more than 2.8 million people and focuses on providing resources to veteran entrepreneurs and veteran small business owners, who currently make up 75 percent of all businesses on the StreetShares marketplace.

"Veterans have a unique set of skills that make them natural entrepreneurs and business owners," Mark L. Rockefeller, StreetShares CEO and Iraq war veteran, said. "We are thrilled that so many great organizations have joined StreetShares in a common mission: to empower a new generation of veterans for business ownership."

Barbara Carson, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) Veterans' programs noted that veteran business ownership is a strategic imperative of the SBA.

"Small business ownership by U.S. military veterans is critical to the U.S. economy and a strategic focus of the SBA," Carson said. "Veterans have historically been far more likely to become business owners than their civilian counterparts. I am thrilled that StreetShares has brought so many great organizations together to provide resources to veteran small business owners. It is the largest private sector effort I've seen."

StreetShares will join forces with the SBA, VetsinTech, and Microsoft to host the National Capital Region's first VetCap (Veterans Capital) event in Washington, D.C. on November 6th as part of National Veterans Small Business Week activities.
